SCHLOSSTHEATER SCHÖNBRUNN

One of the most opulent of Vienna's jeweled concert salons is the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn, built for Empress Maria Theresa in the palace's Valerie Wing, with glittering chandeliers and a gigantic ceiling fresco.
It opened in 1747 as the imperial court theatre -  the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn is the oldest theatre still in operation in Vienna.

The Schönbrunn Castle Theater was the private stage of the Habsburg family. The children of the Empress often appeared in stage plays and entertained the court.

Here, Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart conducted their works, and Christoph Willibald Gluck staged his operas
